Everything went smooth ordering the casket for my father. We ordered it on Monday and received it Tuesday. The funeral home was shocked, never seen a casket come that fast ever online, he said. Never did I think about purchasing a casket from other than a funeral home. I write this to simply inform you about our experience and give you something to think about. I hope it helps.
As my mom was in her final days, the topic of caskets came up with my 4 siblings. One sibling mentioned about seeing a TV news story providing alternative options about purchasing caskets (online) due to the high costs of caskets in funeral homes. I did a lot of online research, and also inquired with two local funeral homes about where they get their caskets and the different types of caskets...wood, metal. I really got an education on all of this especially how the different caskets adapt to the elements. I also found out that you can have a grave vault placed in the ground and the casket placed in it. The vault lid is placed on top and completely sealed from the elements. This would be helpful if purchasing a wooden casket and you wanted protection from the elements.
Ultimately what I found out was that the funeral home will provide you with some options and once you select your casket, they purchase the casket from their supplier who will then deliver the casket to the funeral home. The pricing is significantly higher in the funeral home. Our funeral home was very respectful and completely objective as to where we purchased our casket from. They brought me into their casket room where they had several caskets on display, wood and metal. I was impressed by this and appreciative.
After looking online, I decided to work with Casket Emporium as they were in the NY metro area. I spoke with Joe who guaranteed a personal, hand delivery service. Joe coordinated the delivery with me and had it delivered first thing in the am hours. What was helpful to us were the online reviews and photos other customers have posted. Excellent customer service and prompt response are critical during highly emotional times like this. Loved ones need that reassurance. We chose a metal, 18 gage Heritage casket. Our mom looked wonderful and we were very happy with this option. We will definitely choose this option again. Thank you.

Best thing I did was answer the live chat. I thought it was just a robot, it’s the actual owner. He answered all my questions, then we spoke, he sent pictures and the casket was here next day. Great service.
